Simulating the Iceberg Transfer

Using a powerful simulation software a group of engineers have been seriously looking at creating a solid proof of concept case based on creating an answer to the global water shortage predictions. A commentary from a respondent to this effort is quoted as  replying “On an ongoing basis, the Great Lakes and many Canadian sources could be used in a continental water management system.  This could change the productivity of massive Western land areas.” Serious considerations of the Great Lakes water supply and its conservation/distribution strategy in  a continental water management system could really bring the Grand Traverse region into the global discourse. Planning efforts for our region, state and Great Lakes basin will be of utmost importance in the coming years. Please watch this amazing video simulation, these guys are serious.

Simulating the Iceberg Transfer
Using simulation software from Dassault Systemes, the "Ice Dream" team was able to virtually simulate the transport of a 7 million ton tabular iceberg using a tugboat from Newfoundland to the Canary Islands as part of a research project to determine the feasibility of moving icebergs to solve the world’s water shortages.
